Tips, instructionals and support for VOIP setup, and installation.
VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is a voice conversation that is transmitted through an internet connection. A VoIP telephone practically works anywhere that there is an Internet connection and gives the feel of local incoming or outgoing call. Setting up VoIP requires hardware if one wishes to use a normal phone, or software if headphones with a microphone are intended to be used. A good speed internet connection is also required for the purpose.

To setup a software based VoIP service, the process is quite simple and generic. All one needs to do is to download any VoIP application (soft phones). Then the application needs to be installed on the machine to be used (PC, PDA or mobile phone). As required by the application, the user may need to sign up and make an account and then can start using the service.

For setting up a hardware based VoIP service, one may purchase a VoIP phone and connect it to the internet router. One other way is to attach the phone to an ATA device and this ATA device needs to be connected to the the internet router. ATA hardware is needed in order to convert the analog signals from your phone, into digital signals that can be sent over the internet. Then, there are certain configurations to make, which are commonly achieved using a PC.

If one wants to use the same phone to make calls over the internet as well as the standard phone provider, then one will require an ATA device that has a connection that allows to connect it to the standard PSTN phone line. One may even use a cordless phone by using a hardware set up for the same. By using hardware specifically made for VoIP, good call quality can be achieved. Certain mobile phone manufacturers provide the support for VoIP and these can be used as another alternative.
